I'm motivated primarily by conscience (belief that the GPL carries with it important implications on a societal level, and so it is important in my life).  There is also a business-oriented goal that I have, but if it never comes to pass I will not be disappointed.  I hope to show the business world (both those providing services and those receiving them) that there is a vibrant and expert pool of resources around this area, so technology-dependant companies might establish operations here, or contract with local providers. This might seem like a longshot, but until then, people like me have to work in places like Cambridge which just isn't really neat and cool since it requires commuting at least 10 hours per week.  I would rather spend that time playing trains with my sons, or doing something useful.

Who am I?[edit | edit source]

I'm Greg Rundlett. freephile is a moniker I chose a long time ago from the combination of "freedom" and the Greek "philos" to represent my affection for libre software. I don't use it as much any more since the meaning of "free software", like the GPL has largely become irrelevant.

Why this website?[edit | edit source]

Wiki technology is almost as old as the web itself [1]. It's incredibly powerful. Wikipedia is a relevant example. This site serves as a showcase for some of the features and capabilities of the MediaWiki platform that powers Wikipedia.

What do I do with my time?[edit | edit source]

Interests describes some of the technology, hardware and/or software-related things that occupy my time. When not at work, I take to the beaches, woods, trails, and mountains of New England to enjoy swimming, hiking, disc golf and scenic motorcycle rides. I also enjoy organic gardening and photography.

Local[edit | edit source]

As a board member of the Coastal Trails Coalition I work to expand the accessible multi-use trail network. I live in Salisbury, MA
