====~~Why am I building this website?~~====

I'm motivated primarily by conscience (belief that the GPL carries with it important implications on a societal level), and so it is important in my life to not only adopt Free Software in my own consumption of technology, but also to help others do the same.

I'm Greg Rundlett. ''freephile'' is a moniker I chose a long time ago combining the ideals of "freedom" and the Greek "philos" to represent my affection for things like free thought, freedom of expression, free knowledge, freedom from oppression. I think it is unfortunate that the free software revolution which started in the mid 1980's is pretty much dead and captive to 'open source'.

After years of work, the old freephile site started to suffer from neglect because I was just too busy. I used it as a testbed for free software projects and my own ideas but did not necessarily keep on top of it. Unfortunately, along came a script-kiddie from Saudi Arabia who defaced the website. Due to the security breach, I had to take the site offline. It may be gone, but it is certainly not forgotten. I actually still have the whole thing tucked away, safe from malicious doers of evil. Now, I'll be working to bring back the best of Freephile, combined with an improved infrastructure so that others can join me in ~~the effort. A collaborative effort is really the only way to keep on top of things.~~
