Some interesting discussion on GNU Social, a FLOSS alternative to Twitter The short takeaway from that discussion, and in general, is that if you join or host a freedom respecting federated platform (e.g. NHCrossing.com - an instance of GNU Social), then you both control your content; and can syndicate your content to other centralized services like Twitter.
