On RedHat systems, there are many free software packages that are not maintained by RedHat, but instead are provided by the Fedora project via the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repo. So for example, if you want a newer Python, you might need to enable and use EPEL. See this tecmint.com article
