For creative works and documentation, it is best to use a wp:Creative Commons license license for your work. There is the GNU Free Documentation License, but that license is not better than a CC0 or CC-BY or CC-SA license, perhaps more difficult to apply to source code examples, and not more popular.
The Creative Commons set of licenses are used to support Free Cultural Works.
