discuss this website
Do you know abot the wikipedia website? Have you ever used a wiki before? Are there other community-building platforms that you think would be more appropriate for this website?

I think that this software does a pretty good job of handling a large number of the requirements for building an information-based community. There is a project that I just discovered called '[http://www.civicspacelabs.org/ CivicSpace]' which is built as an extension to the [http://www.drupal.org Drupal] CMS/framework and that looks like it may be the ultimate software to support this site (while this 'wiki' could be an integrated part that serves a more defined role). What does a CivicSpace website look like? Well, check out [http://spreadfirefox.com/ SpreadFirefox.com] to get an idea.

CivicSpace is pretty comprehensive when it comes to building community online. The project started out as DeanSpace political website. Here are some of the latest features:
# Create a customizable community driven website with Blogs, Photo Galleries, User Profiles, Friend / Buddy Tracking, Polls, and File Storage
# Send targeted email
# Import and aggregate remote content, share users, and sync calendars with any other CivicSpace site
# Manage your groups membership and contacts
# Organize events, ride sharing, and RSVP
# Collaboratively create, edit, and publish documents
# Easily create discussion forum / mailing lists
# Allow you to create forms and surveys for data collection
# VoterID/GOTV
